by Dave Keefe for America Tomorrow

More than 850 professionals from over 50 countries convened in Freiburg, Germany from June 20-25 to present and discuss educational applications of multimedia and telecommunications, at the annual Ed-Media/Ed-Telecommunications conference.

Sponsored by AACE, the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education, and hosted by the University of Freiburg, the conference brought together experts in educational technology, instructional psychology, and learning theory to review and debate the issues surrounding distribution of learning via technology and the Internet.

Conference proceedings are available in both print and CD Rom from AACE

Molecular Biologist James D. Willett of George Mason University enjoys the historic section of old Freiburg during a break in the conference proceedings. Willett and Keefe presented "Augmented Distributed Learning on the Internet" based on their work with the George Mason graduate course in Biochemistry.

Attendees enjoyed good weather throughout the conference which was held in Germany's wine district at the southwestern edge of the Black Forest. The University of Freiburg hosted tours of several projects on campus, including the host for the international "FlyBrain" project and site on the Internet
