  • PBS "The American Experience" will be broadcasting TR, The Story of Theodore Roosevelt in September, 1997.
This biographical documentary examines the life of Theodore Roosevelt -- cowboy, soldier, explorer, scientist, a world authority on large mammals and small birds, the author of 36 books and 150,000 letters, and president of the United States by the age of 42. In examining Roosevelt's intersection with the major issues and events of his age, the program shows how those influences shaped the man and how he, in turn, shaped the course of American history. Jason Robards narrates.

  • TNT Originals presents Rough Riders. Tom Berenger headlines the Turner Network Television (TNT) Original miniseries story of Teddy Roosevelt and the regiment of cavalry soldiers he led in a legendary charge on San Juan Hill during the Spanish American War. John Milius wrote and directed the four-hour epic, also starring Sam Elliott, Gary Busey,Brad Johnson, Geoffrey Lewis, Chris Noth and Francesco Quinn.

  • For another perspective (the Hollywood view) check out John Milius' 1975 epic "The Wind and the Lion" for a somewhat glamorized view of the international setting in which Theodore Roosevelt made his mark. Performances by Sean Connery, Candace Bergen and Brian Kieth, and stirring music by Jerry Goldsmith are sure to capture your student's (and your) rapt attention.
